Data Storage And Security In The Metaverse

How metaverse will change the way we work, learn, and do business.

Since Mark Zuckerberg announced the name change of Facebook Inc to Meta Inc, the world has been abuzz with the phrase metaverse.

As great as all this is, there are a lot of questions the experts and the simulations have not answered, details that they have not explained. Will our avatars be complete beings independent of our real selves?

The metaverse will change how we work, learn, and do business. The metaverse will change the way we work, learn, and do business. Currently, you can attend a concert, go to a casino and buy clothes – to cite just a few examples – in the metaverse.

Privacy

Another aspect to consider is privacy. How will we be able to manage privacy? We already have issues from just using the internet.

The latest VR technology promises eye-tracking technology, which means that companies can access the data of where we were looking and for how long. There are other gadgets like pointers that we can use to point at objects; the same can be said for the data on these devices. There are copious amounts of data that companies can collect and use for marketing purposes, more than they currently do.

Data storage

Cloud storage is currently the most innovative form of storage we have at our disposal. We can store anything on the cloud; retrieval is instantaneous and can be accessed anywhere. Since the metaverse is a network of virtual worlds, it should take cloud storage to the next level.

Some have even implied that the metaverse could be a service provider, hosting and managing our clouds. Providers could create new platforms or use meta-universe platforms like Vircadia as a base.

What about metaverse data generated in the metaverse? Objects generated in the metaverse could be stored on object storage platforms such as AWS S3. It would be logical to store metaverse data in a decentralized system based on blockchain technology. A hybrid cloud solution utilizing cloud computing and metaverse blockchain technology is the best way to manage data storage.

Data Security

Data security is a very important part of our lives. From keeping our phone passwords safe and logging into our accounts with biometrics, we want to know our personal and business data is safe.

Thinking back to big security breaches like the 2013 Yahoo breach and the Aadhaar breach, how safe would our data be on the metaverse? The use of blockchain technology in the decentralized system will make it difficult for hacking to happen.

To Sum it Up

Safety is paramount in any environment, be it at home, school, or work, so we certainly hope this will be foremost in the mind of developers and creators of the virtual reality universe. We understand that the building is in its infancy stages, and it will take time for all the finite details to be worked out properly. As we move forward with this virtual reality, we hope the corporates and developers will consider all these facts.
