How to Get More Views for Your Online Videos

Producing and distributing high-quality videos is one of the best ways to build an audience in the modern era.

Video content marketing has taken off. Producing and distributing high-quality videos is one of the best ways to build an audience in the modern era. People are consuming video content more than ever, there are plenty of niches left unexplored, and if you’re willing to put in a bit of work, it can be a fantastic way to make extra money.

Alternatively, it can serve as a marketing channel for your primary business, helping you generate traffic and make more money in a different way.

However, regardless of whether you’re using your videos to generate revenue directly or drive revenue in another application, there’s one thing you’ll need to achieve: getting lots of views. Your videos might be good, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re going to generate millions of views on their own.

If you want heavier-hitting and more attractive videos that generate more views, you’ll need to put in the extra work.

Invest in Professional Production

One of the most important prerequisites for getting lots of views is investing in professional production. That’s not to say an amateur video can never go viral or build an audience, but you’re much more likely to be successful if your video looks crisp and your audio is sharp.

The most straightforward option here is to enlist professional video production services. With the help of professional video producers, you can establish an aesthetic that looks polished and unique. You won’t have to worry about the quality of your video or audio bogging down your potential.

If you’d rather continue making videos on your own, spend some money on new, professional equipment, and spend some time learning how to use it properly.

Better Understand Your Audience

Next, better understand who your audience is. Many would-be video marketers attempt to please everyone, all the time, but this is a surefire strategy for failure. Instead, it’s better to cater to a niche target audience, serving them topics they want to see in a way that appeals to them. It’s almost impossible to do this unless you have an idea of who your target demographics are and you’re willing to cater to them.

Cover Neglected Topics (That People Want)

Don’t just cover video topics that you think are interesting. Instead, cover topics that have been neglected by your rivals and other people in this space. In other words, which topics have been ignored or covered only poorly? This is your opportunity to do something original that your viewers actually want to see.

Master the Thumbnail

By default, YouTube (and most other video platforms) will choose a series of thumbnails for your video by default, drawing from the video itself. You can choose the one you think fits the spirit of the video best, but it’s usually even better to create a unique thumbnail from scratch. Design a thumbnail that’s eye-catching, exciting, and capable of generating intrigue through ambiguity. Study examples of successful thumbnails until you get a better sense of what works and what doesn’t.

Avoid Obvious Clickbait

New video producers often create headlines that are “clickbaity” in nature, trying to shock or sensationalize the topic in a way that practically forces people to click. While there’s nothing wrong with incentivizing clicks, you shouldn’t go over the top. A title like “One of the scariest developments I’ve seen…” generates click interest reasonably. A title like “I literally DIED when I saw this APOCALYPTIC development” goes too far (unless you’re obviously being ironic).

Add Timestamps

This is a simple step, but an important one. Add timestamps, especially to long videos, to incentivize people to watch even if they don’t have much time. Not everyone wants to watch the entire video, but watching even a short section can benefit you.

Practice Video SEO

Optimize your video for search, so that people are more likely to find it when they search for topics relevant to your channel or business. The easiest way to do this is to create headlines, video descriptions, and hashtags filled with keywords and phrases that your audience is likely to use in their searches.

Link building for SEO is also important. This is the practice of building links pointing to a specific page in order to help that page appear more authoritative and therefore rank higher in searches. Building even a few external links to your video can help it outperform similar videos; if those links can generate referral traffic as well, you’ll see even more benefits.

Interlink With Other Videos

If you produce videos regularly, as you should, make sure you interlink those videos. Give your audience opportunities to discover new content you’ve created by sending them to videos with similar or related topics – and do so in the beginning, middle, and end of each video if you can.

Share Far and Wide

Finally, be willing to share the video in whatever channels are accessible to you. Share with your friends. Share on social media. Get involved in forums relevant to your topic and share the video there as well.

These strategies are no guarantee of success, but they can make good videos perform better and they can help great videos go viral. If you have a strategically valuable target niche, and you’re willing to put in the effort to become a great video creator, you’ll be on a track for success no matter what.
